Iumara Relax Resort, located in the heart of Cilento, carries an ancient and unique story. In the second half of the 19th century, its gardens of orange and walnut trees offered rest and refreshment to those travelling from the banks of the Alento River to the sea of the Velia coast or climbing the heights of Monte Stella (1,131 m above sea level).

From the summit, where the sanctuary built around the year 1000 by Basilian monks still stands, breathtaking views of the gulfs can be admired—from Palinuro and Licosa to Salerno. On clear days, the islands of Capri and Ischia appear on the horizon.

The Byzantine monks played a crucial cultural role in shaping these communities and their land. Wherever they settled, they established agricultural estates around their monasteries, teaching the locals to cultivate mulberry trees, grapevines, and olive groves—traditions that endure to this day.
